Life of a Photojournalist
I Can’t Write, But I Can Shoot

There are many ways to tell a story.  Some folks use words.  Other individuals, like Gregg Doll, are creative in a way that has roots going back to the earliest drawings on cave walls.  Photojournalism reinforces “A picture’s meaning can express ten thousand words”, an old Chinese proverb that is sometimes misquoted.

Gregg has been taking photographs since 1967.   He sold his first photograph to a fellow Marine at Camp Lejeune.   He continued to take photographs after he was stationed in Vietnam.  Most of those photographs were lost when he was hit with napalm due to “friendly fire”.   Gregg recovered from his burns at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital.   He then was retired from the Marine Corps and decided to stay in Philadelphia and study at Antonelli’s School of Photography.

Gregg’s photographs have been published in the Philadelphia Bulletin, Daily News, The Allentown Morning Call and the Altoona Mirror.  He has contributed photographs to the Star-Courier, a publication of Mainline Newspapers since 2004.  One of his photographs took Best of Show at the 2005 Cambria County Fair.  Another has been accepted into the Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts 10th Anniversary Regional Juried Art Exhibition.

Gregg enjoys riding his motorcycle, but is often distracted as he stops to take photographs of interesting events he views along his rides. He uses his unique eye to capture what occurs in our every day lives.

Gregg shares his view of life in rural Pennsylvania on the web at http://weeklypaper.blogspot.com.  Visitors to the web site include individuals who have moved from the Northern area of Cambria County area as well as those who appreciate photography as an art form and photojournalism as a modern way of telling a story with pictures, an art form thousand’s of years old.
